Caulking Interior Trim
Caulking interior trim is a simple and effective way to improve the appearance and energy efficiency of your home.
Caulking Interior Trim.
If you are painting the trim and wall you should always caulk all the trim to the wall. This includes around baseboards, windowsills, door frames, and crown molding. Caulking can also be used to fill gaps around electrical outlets, plumbing fixtures, and other penetrations in the wall. Take your time but be consistent when applying the caulk, and do it neatly.
What Type of Caulk to Use for Interior Trim.
For interior trim, you should use a latex-based caulk. Latex caulk is easy to apply and clean up, and it can be painted over. It is also flexible and durable, making it ideal for sealing gaps and cracks.
Jcb Painting uses this brand of caulk. We think it's the best.
Improved appearance: Caulk can help to hide gaps and cracks in the trim, giving your home a more polished look.
Caulking interior trim is a quick and easy way to improve your home's appearance.

How to Paint a Room in Taunton, MA.
How to Paint a Room in Taunton, MA.
Painting a room is a great way to give it a fresh new look. Here are some tips on how to paint a room with doors, windows, ceiling, baseboard, and walls:
Preparing the Room.
Before you start painting, it's important to prep the room. Cover the floor with canvas drop cloths, and cover your furniture with clean plastic sheeting.
Inspecting the Walls and Ceiling.
Once the room is prepared, inspect the walls and ceiling for any damage. If there are any holes or cracks, patch them with spackle. Once the spackle is dry, sand the area smooth, and then pole sand the walls of the entire room to remove any stuck debris from the last paint job.
Painting the Ceiling with a flat white ceiling paint.
To paint the ceiling, start by rolling along the walls as a first cut-in (some paint will get on the wall but that's okay as you will be painting the walls next anyway) and go across the room making sure to roll all the area completely. Then get your brush and run it along the edge of the ceiling and wall for a final cut and you're done. Easy peasy. Quick and easy. I love painting ceilings. $$
When I paint a room I first recaulk all the trim (jambs, windows, and baseboards) Let it set for a day to harden because some gaps are deep and will take a few hours to cure or you will mess it up with your paint brush. Then the next day I blast out all of that trim speedily.
Painting the Baseboard.
The caulking is dry and set, so just go. Overlap onto the wall a bit. Be careful on the floor or carpet. Be sure to apply two coats of paint for the best results.
Painting the Doors.
To paint the doors, start by removing all hardware. Then, use an angle sash brush to cut in around the edges of the door. Depending on the type of door, (if it's flat) you could use a mini roller to apply the paint quickly. If it is a six-panel type of door use a brush to cut in the top 4 panels and carefully use a mini roller (1/8th nap) on the flat parts to finish. Then do the bottom 2 panels the same way. Be careful of the hinges. (I put blue tape on them so I can speed along.)
Be sure to apply two coats of paint for the best results.
Jambs.
Paint 2 coats using a sash brush. Overlap onto the wall a bit.
Windows.
Remove hardware, and paint 2 coats using a sash brush. Take your time. Don't rush it. Overlap onto the wall a bit.
The next day.
Painting the Walls.
To paint the walls, start by cutting in the walls to the ceiling. Then carefully, taping with blue tape, all the edges of the trim that were painted the day before, (jambs, windows, and baseboards) where it meets the walls. Make sure the tape is matted down good so you don't get any paint seepage under the tape onto the trim. Then cut in around the edges of the room with an angle sash type of brush. Don't buy cheap brands. Buy good brushes. Then, use a paint roller to fill in the rest of the wall. Be sure to apply at least two coats of paint for the best results.
Finishing Up.
Once the paint has dried, remove the painter's tape and replace the hardware on the doors and windows. Then, move the furniture back into the room and enjoy your newly painted room!

If you are a homeowner and you hire someone to do work in your bathroom near or around the shower or vanity area or the kitchen counter area and that "person" uses a silicone-based caulk you should make sure it says on the tube of caulk that is paintable.
Because if it's not and you hire this company to paint those areas the price goes up because you can't paint over silicone-based caulk! Besides not being able to paint over it trying to remove it is time-consuming.
I am running into unpaintable silicone-based caulk all the time these days. And because sometimes it's a clear caulk you don't know it until you start painting over it and then all production stops because you have to fix it.
Sometimes it's a white silicone-based caulk like I had run into on a recent bathroom job. Couldn't paint over it. It looked like regular white paintable caulk.
Work came to a halt.
So if I come to your home or business and have to deal with a silicone-based caulk that shouldn't have been used then the paint job price goes up.
And because I'm running into this problem more and more these days it's the first thing I look for when quoting a kitchen or bathroom job.
The lesson here is don't ever use an unpaintable silicone-based caulk anywhere where the paint will have to come in contact with it.
Unless you don't mind paying more for your paint job.
This is the best all-around caulk for any project.

Mansfield Bathroom Painters
This is what happens in your bathroom when you take long hot steamy showers and don't use the ceiling fan. Or you have a ceiling fan that is inadequate to do the job.
Jcb Painting sees a lot of bathrooms like this. Our plan of attack will be to bleach all the moldy areas, (pretty much the whole bathroom here.) scrape away loose peeling paint, and clean up.

Bath Fitters using clear pure silicone caulking.
This is what to expect from a Bath Fitter bathroom renovation. They use a pure clear silicone caulk all around that starts to deteriorate in just a few years. It looks good at first.
As a professional interior painter who paints a lot of bathrooms, I have come across this scenario many times over the years.
This is what the homeowners have to look at whenever they sit on the toilet.
Deteriorating pure clear silicone caulking. Nice job Bath Fitters!

Nursery Painting in Berkley, MA.
Jcb Painting just finished this nursery room painting in Berkley, MA. last week.
This room was in very poor shape because the previous paint job was obviously painted by a non-professional. The woodwork and walls were hacked-up big time. For instance, hardened paint drips EVERYWHERE! Some people should never attempt interior house painting.
But after a lot of hard work patching, sanding, caulking, etc, etc, Jcb Painting got it done. The new owners of this Berkley home were very happy with the results and have contracted with us to paint the rest of their interior.

bathroom painting in Walpole, MA.
Yes, a lighter wall color in a small room such as this bathroom looks much better than a dark color that makes the room look and feel smaller than it already is, as it was before adding this new color called "calming cream" by Benjamin Moore. After more than 30 years in the paint biz, Jcb Painting has a good idea what colors work best because of extensive experience. |
