How to Paint a Room in Taunton, MA.
How to Paint a Room in Taunton, MA.
Painting a room is a great way to give it a fresh new look. Here are some tips on how to paint a room with doors, windows, ceiling, baseboard, and walls:
Preparing the Room.
Before you start painting, it's important to prep the room. Cover the floor with canvas drop cloths, and cover your furniture with clean plastic sheeting.
Inspecting the Walls and Ceiling.
Once the room is prepared, inspect the walls and ceiling for any damage. If there are any holes or cracks, patch them with spackle. Once the spackle is dry, sand the area smooth, and then pole sand the walls of the entire room to remove any stuck debris from the last paint job.
Painting the Ceiling with a flat white ceiling paint.
To paint the ceiling, start by rolling along the walls as a first cut-in (some paint will get on the wall but that's okay as you will be painting the walls next anyway) and go across the room making sure to roll all the area completely. Then get your brush and run it along the edge of the ceiling and wall for a final cut and you're done. Easy peasy. Quick and easy. I love painting ceilings. $$
When I paint a room I first recaulk all the trim (jambs, windows, and baseboards) Let it set for a day to harden because some gaps are deep and will take a few hours to cure or you will mess it up with your paint brush. Then the next day I blast out all of that trim speedily.
Painting the Baseboard.
The caulking is dry and set, so just go. Overlap onto the wall a bit. Be careful on the floor or carpet. Be sure to apply two coats of paint for the best results.
Painting the Doors.
To paint the doors, start by removing all hardware. Then, use an angle sash brush to cut in around the edges of the door. Depending on the type of door, (if it's flat) you could use a mini roller to apply the paint quickly. If it is a six-panel type of door use a brush to cut in the top 4 panels and carefully use a mini roller (1/8th nap) on the flat parts to finish. Then do the bottom 2 panels the same way. Be careful of the hinges. (I put blue tape on them so I can speed along.)
Be sure to apply two coats of paint for the best results.
Jambs.
Paint 2 coats using a sash brush. Overlap onto the wall a bit.
Windows.
Remove hardware, and paint 2 coats using a sash brush. Take your time. Don't rush it. Overlap onto the wall a bit.
The next day.
Painting the Walls.
To paint the walls, start by cutting in the walls to the ceiling. Then carefully, taping with blue tape, all the edges of the trim that were painted the day before, (jambs, windows, and baseboards) where it meets the walls. Make sure the tape is matted down good so you don't get any paint seepage under the tape onto the trim. Then cut in around the edges of the room with an angle sash type of brush. Don't buy cheap brands. Buy good brushes. Then, use a paint roller to fill in the rest of the wall. Be sure to apply at least two coats of paint for the best results.
Finishing Up.
Once the paint has dried, remove the painter's tape and replace the hardware on the doors and windows. Then, move the furniture back into the room and enjoy your newly painted room!

Interior Painters North Attleboro
Interior entryway painting in North Attleboro.Changing the wall color in any room can dramatically change the look and feel of the space. A lighter wall color always makes the area seem roomier. The new wall color is "shoreline" by Benjamin Moore. The trim and door paint is a top-shelf semi-gloss also from Benjamin Moore. |

Spray Painting Doors in Massachusetts.
It's a nice change in routine when doing an interior painting job in Norton, MA. from baseboard to ceiling and the carpet is being replaced. Which allows me to spray the doors, saving me a lot of time and effort. Resulting in making more money by the hour. Yes.

Jcb Painting's New Go To Semi-Gloss
Jcb Painting found this new semi-gloss, Benjamin Moore's Corotech (v341). A straight semi-gloss and NOT a "paint and primer".
I tested 6 other semi's and none of them came close to the quality of the Regal Classic. Then I tried this product. It is just about as good as the Regal Classic. Maybe better.
I'm glad that I can continue to do quality work on my customer's trim, doors, and windows.
Good stuff!

R.I.P. Regal Classic Semi-Gloss (333)
I have been using the "Regal Classic" semi-gloss (333), which used to be called "Aqua Glo", for about 40 years. Every time I used it I marveled at how good it covered. It went on by brush like butter. Flowed and leveled out beautifully. And my doors, windows, and trim really did "Glo". Over the years I received many compliments on my finished paint jobs because of this paint.
Benjamin Moore has replaced it with "Regal Select" semi-gloss paint and primer. This paint has none of the characteristics that the "Regal Classic" had.
This new and "improved" semi-gloss is a thinned-down, quick-drying, just awful replacement for the Regal Classic. And it costs more too. If you can't brush fast, you will have nothing but problems applying it, especially on a warm day. It dries so fast it leaves brush marks. This stuff doesn't have a chance to level out because it starts to set up almost immediately.
What I used to get done in 2 coats with the Regal Classic is now 3 or 4 coats with the "new and improved" Regal Select and it still doesn't look as good.
I never, ever, had brush marks using the Regal Classic because of its leveling out characteristic and more open time. The Regal Select does not have these attributes which makes it a poor replacement.
If your spraying, this Regal Select product would work because it dries so fast. But Jcb Painting does mostly re-paints in occupied homes so spraying is usually not an option.
This reminds me of when Coca-Cola changed its formula in 1985. That went over well.:>)
And as for the do-it-yourselfers, good luck trying to do good work with this semi-gloss paint.
Bring back the Regal Classic Benjamin Moore!
Stay Away. Too much money for an inferior product.

Interior painting in Mansfield, MA.
We just finished painting this home in Mansfield, MA. The wall color is gray. "Gray" has been the go-to color for many interior paint jobs for the last few years. From a painters perspective, gray is a great color to use because it covers well over most other colors when doing a re-paint. Contact us for your free estimate. |

Interior house painting in North Attleborough, MA
You need a good eye for cutting in, a steady hand to get those straight paint lines and quite a bit of knowledge.
With all the products associated with painting, paints, stains, varnishes, lacquers, etc, you have to be part chemist and painter at the same time.
You have to know what to do first and what to do last to insure a great paint job. And after decades of painting homes and businesses in southeastern Massachusetts we have that experience. We are always on time, neat, and trustworthy.
We then proceed to prep the area, caulking baseboard and trim neatly, and patching and sanding the walls to get ready for painting. (painting is the easy part!) |
